Clarence N. Carlisle

Clarence N. Carlisle, 87

MILFORD - Clarence N. Carlisle of Milford passed away Sunday, Dec. 23, 2007, in the Veterans Home in Wilmington. He was 87.

Clarence was born in Felton, son of the late James and Ethel (Seward) Carlisle.

He was a truck driver and supervisor with the Maryland State Highway Administration for 18 years and retired in 1979.

Mr. Carlisle was an Army veteran serving during World War II.

He fought in seven major battles and was a prisoner of war for one year near the Baltic Sea.

For his valiant service, he was awarded two Purple Hearts.

Mr. Carlisle was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Harrington, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Milford, life member of State of Delaware Ex-POW Chapter 1 and the Milford Senior Center.

He enjoyed carpentry projects and loved flower and vegetable gardening.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Kovach Carlisle; brothers, Harry Carlisle, Arthur Carlisle, Floyd Carlisle and Edgar Carlisle; and a sister, Pearl Smith.

He is survived by one son, Clifton Carlisle of Milford; one daughter, Vicki Tribout of Clayton; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; seven brothers and sisters, Lillian Stayton and Roland Carlisle, both of Felton, Ernest Carlisle of Clayton, Lester Carlisle of Wilmington, Leon Carlisle and Thelma Kemp, both of Felton, and Harold Carlisle of Woodside.

A funeral service will be noon Saturday in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 N.W. Front St., Milford, where friends may call one hour prior to services.

Burial will be in Milford Community Cemetery.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Veterans Home, Attn: Karen Kavanaugh, 1601 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19805.
