Black, 66 FELTON - Clarence 'Richard' Black, passed away suddenly on Saturday, March 22, 2014. Richard was born August 25, 1947 in Milford, DE, the son of the late Clarence and Lillian Black. Richard served his country proudly in the United States Army, including a tour in Vietnam where he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster. He graduated from Goldey Beacom College in 1971, where he then began a career in the food industry that lasted for over 40 years. He spent the last 23 years working for Burris Logistics; currently serving as Executive Vice President and General Manager at Honor Foods, the redistribution division of Burris Logistics. Richard enjoyed sports, lettering in four different sports at Harrington High School with his highlight being part of the football and track teams that won the Henlopen Conference Championship his senior year. He was an active member of the Harrington High School Alumni Association, serving as President during the 1974-75 year and had a scholarship named in his honor in the year 2000. Richard collected antique American Flyer trains and was a member of the Train Collectors Association. Richard could always be found outside in his yard and would spend hours tending to his ever growing rose bush collection. He loved spending time with his family, especially the trips taken to Topsail Island, NC. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Linda; devoted daughter, Jennifer Gallagher and her husband Patrick of Dover; sister-in-law, Franny Bergold of Felton; and many extended family members and friends. Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, March 27, 2014 at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming. Service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Barratt's Chapel Cemetery, Frederica. Flowers are accepted or contributions can be made in Richard's name to: Home of the Brave, Veterans Homeless Shelter, 6632 Sharps Road, Milford, DE 19963.
