LINCOLN - Clara P. Carey, 85, of Lincoln, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2011, at The Milford Center, Genesis Eldercare. Mrs. Carey was born in Milford, the daughter of the late William and Martha (Swain) Passwaters Sr. At the age of 17, Clara went to work as a cashier at the A&P Grocery Store. She worked in Milford and Lewes before retiring in 1974. Clara and her husband Richard also owned and operated Carey's Market in Ellendale. She was a member of Lincoln United Methodist Church and enjoyed cooking and reading. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Richard Carey Sr.; a grandson, Curt Carey II; and her daughter-in-law Gidge Carey. She is survived by two sons, Richard Carey II and his wife Pam, of Hazelton, W.Va., and Curt Carey and his wife Darlene, of Lincoln; one daughter, Ginny Houseman and her husband Lawrence of Ellendale; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011, in Lincoln Cemetery, Lincoln. Arrangements by Lofland Funeral Home, Milford.
