LINCOLN - Deacon Charles H. Jenkins, of Lincoln, departed this life Monday, May 26, 2008, at the Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital, after a brief illness.
Deacon Jenkins was born in Savannah, Ga., on June 20, 1922, to the late Edward E. and Amelia C. Jenkins.
He lived his childhood years and some of his adult years in Savannah, moving to Delaware in the early 1960s.
He served in the U.S. Army.
He worked various jobs before becoming a USDA inspector for the federal government.
He was married to Georgianna Watson Jenkins of Lincoln.
Deacon Jenkins was a father, grandfather and a great-grandfather.
He loved sporty vehicles and was a very sharp dresser.
He was a member of the Mt. Enon Baptist Church, where he served as chairman of the Deacon Board, Trustee, Sunday school teacher and choir member.
He was involved in community organizations, being a member of the Rock of Ages Chapter 15 Order of the Eastern Star and Temple Lodge 8.
He is survived by his wife, Georgianna Watson Jenkins of Lincoln; three sons, Charles Jenkins Jr., Adam Leon Jenkins and Willie L. Jenkins; three daughters, Marie Jenkins, Betty Cleveland and Debra Anthony; 50 grandchildren; and 55 great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Mt. Enon Baptist Church, 600 Church St., Milford.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the church, where friends may call two hours prior to the services.
Interment will be in the Delaware Veterans Cemetery, Millsboro.
Arrangements are being handled by Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Milford.
