Charles Edward Smack, 89

SEAFORD - Charles Edward Smack, of Seaford, left his earthly home March 1, 2008, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. He was 89.

He was born to the late Henrietta and John Smack on Oct. 22, 1918.

Ed, as he was affectionately known, was educated in the Berlin, Md., school system.

He later served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Ed was married to Helen Fountain who preceded him in death.

He worked on the Delaware State Railroad and later as a custodian at Frederick Douglass Elementary School, Seaford.

Ed was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church, Seaford.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Orlando, George, and Lee Smack; sisters, Henrietta Thomas, Ella Jarmon, and Anna Garland; and step-daughter, Mildred Wainwright.

He leaves to cherish his memories, sisters, Edna Purnell of Berlin, Md., and Fannie Demoulin of Jamaica, N.Y.; daughter, Fay Jarmon (Kenneth) of Berlin; a devoted niece, adopted like a daughter, Ida Mae Williams (James) (Tonya) of Ellendale; stepdaughter, Helen Burton of New Castle; dedicated friend and caretaker, Shelia Fogg (adopted like a granddaughter Hope); grandchildren, Tonya Postell (Michael) of Newport News, Va., and Deano Fassett of Norfolk, Va.; eight step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday in John Wesley United Methodist Church, Seaford, where friends may call one hour prior.

Burial will be in Delaware Veterans Cemetery, Millsboro.
