HARTLY - Charles Edward Hurd passed away Sunday, May 15, 2016 at home. Mr. Hurd was born in Wilmington, to Gloria Neall Hurd and the late Charles Earl Hurd. He served in the United States Navy. Mr. Hurd worked for Kraft Foods in the maintenance department for 36 years, retiring in 2005. He was a member of the Smyrna Clayton Moose Lodge and on the APA Pool League and a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed working on lawn mowers, camping, shooting pool and spending time the grandchildren. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Walter Hurd. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Lisa Coker Hurd, of Hartly; daughters, Amber Skivers and her husband Erik, of Camden, and Ashley Hurd, of Dover; brothers, Robert "Duffy" Hurd and his wife Patricia, of Dover; Alvin "Danny" Hurd, of Anna, Ill.; Lawrence "Larry" Hurd, of Greensboro, Md.; sisters, Linda Hyatt, of Lake Odessa, Mich.; Elva Webb, of Rock Hall, Md.; and Gloria Thompson and her husband Timothy, of Henderson, Md.; grandchildren, Ava and Ellie Skivers and Aiden Johnson; several nieces and nephews; in-laws, Gene and Nancy Coker, Danny and Kim Pearson, Donald and Barbara Gosser, all of Dover; Mark Gosser, of Viola; and Gene and Tammy Johnson, of Cheswold. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening. Interment will be in Immanuel Union United Methodist Church Cemetery, Cheswold. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Lenape Indian Tribe of DE, 4164 N.
