Charles E. 'Charlie' Price, 91 MIDDLETOWN - Charles E. "Charlie" Price, 91, of Middletown, passed away after a short illness on Monday, March 22, 2010, at Christiana Hospital in Newark. Born on Nov. 20, 1918, in Port Penn, he was the son of the late Emily (Nolan) and Edward Price. Charlie proudly served his country during WWII in the U. S. Army. He retired from Gulf Oil in 1975 after 25 years of dedicated service. A hardworking man from an early age, Charlie took great pride in living an active life. His many accomplishments include serving as a councilman on the Middletown Town Council for 2 years and later served as Mayor of Middletown from 1977-1989. He was an active life member of the Middletown Volunteer Hose Company, Station 27, for the past 65 years. Charlie served as Chief for the Volunteer Hose Co. for 11 years and served on the Board of Directors. Charlie also served as Past President of the State Fire Chief's Association and Past President of the New Castle County Fire Chiefs Association. As recognition for his dedication to the fire service, he was selected in 1990 as New Castle County Fireman of the Year. Among his other accomplishments, Charlie was actively involved with Middletown VFW Post 3792, where he served as Past Commander and was known by many in the community for collecting donations for VFW Buddy Poppies. He was Past District Commander for VFW District 2 and volunteered an astonishing 14,264 hours at the Veterans Hospital in Elsmere. He was also Past President of the MOT Senior Center and Past President of the MOT Little League. Charlie touched and enriched numerous lives in his 91 years and most definitely made a positive difference in the world in which he lived. Known to many as a good and kind man, he will be missed by the numerous lives he touched. Charlie was preceded in death by his wife, Clara M. Price in 1979; a son, Ronald Demczak; a grandson, James Price II; a sister, Josephine Manlove; and a brother, Emil Price. He leaves many wonderful memories to his son, James Price and his wife Mary of Middletown; a brother, Nolan Price of Camden-Wyoming; a sister, Mae Young and her husband Walter of Woodbury, N.J.; a daughter-in-law, Hope Demczak of Middletown; five grandchildren, Charles "Skip" and his wife Denys, Scott and his wife Chrissy, and David and his wife Pam Demczak, Cari Price and her fiancé Denes Papellas, and Anne Price; five great-grandchildren, Daryl, Brandon, Veronica, James and Lily; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as many dear friends and the community at large. Funeral services will be 3 p.m., Sunday, March 28, at Station 27, Middletown Volunteer Hose Company, 27 W. Green Street, Middletown. Family and friends may visit from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday at the fire house and from 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday evening, March 27, at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, 212 N. Broad Street, Middletown. Interment will include full military and firemen's honors in Forest Cemetery. Arrangements by Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, Middletown.
