Charles E. Oliver, 88

HARTLY - Charles E. Oliver of Hartly died Friday, Nov. 3, 2006, in his home. He was 88.

Mr. Oliver was born Sept. 11, 1918, in Atwater, Calif., son of the late Antonio M. and Isabel De Silva Oliver.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II as a pilot.

Mr. Oliver retired in 1960 after 30 years of service as a fireman for the Hayward Fire Department in Hayward, Calif. He moved to Delaware five years ago from Watsonville, Calif.

He enjoyed reading, watching CNN and loved to travel around the United States and being with his friends.

Mr. Oliver was a member of Fire Folks in Hayward.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Isabel Truax Oliver.

He is survived by two nieces, Katherine Cramer of Sacramento, Calif. and Lucy Ornellas of Concord, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Kay Oliver of Sacramento; and a special caregiver, Margaret Spears and her husband, Robert Williams of Hartly; his dear friend, Ruby Williams; Charlotte Spears, who was like a daughter to him; Esti Spears and Mykayla Spears, who were like his own grandchildren.

Services will be private.
