WARWICK, Md. - Charles E. Dixon Sr., of Warwick, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2007, in Sunbridge, Elkton. He was 79.

Mr. Dixon was born March 8, 1928, in Massey, one of 13 children born to the late John Cooper Dixon and Myrtle Estella (King) Dixon.

He began his career with General Motors in 1951 and in 1958 went to work for Chrysler.

For three years, Mr. Dixon operated Dixon's Garage and worked for Sheets Ford in Middletown, Del., as a service manager.

In 1970 he went to work for Shallcross Chevrolet in Middletown as a mechanic, retiring in 1990.

He was a member of the Blackbird Racing Club and enjoyed stock car racing.

Mr. Dixon was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Mary (Glanding) Dixon, in 1995; by five brothers, John, Vincent, Cooper, Dudley and Gene; and by three sisters, Florence, Angie and Marie Dixon.

He is survived by four children, Beverly Brown and her husband Bill, Charles Dixon Jr. and his wife Sandy and Eddie Dixon and his wife Natalie, all of Warwick, and Betty Coyle of Elkton; two brothers, Sam Dixon of Townsend, Del., and Lewis Dixon of Goldsboro; two sisters, Anna Benton of Barclay and Dorothy Rash of Wyoming, Del.; 11 grandchildren, Billy Brown, Steven Brown, Melissa Sutch, Lori Browning, Mark Dixon, Erna Mae Dixon, Mary Dixon, Taylor Dixon, Danny Coyle, Heather Coyle and Dylan Coyle; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., Galena, where friends may call one hour prior.

Burial will be in Warwick Cemetery.

Memorials may be offered to Wards Hill Baptist Church, 204 Wards Hill Road, Warwick, MD 21912.
