DOVER - Cathryn "Katie" Barnes passed away in her sleep on April 8, 2018. Katie was born Jan. 11, 1986 in Dover.
Katie was an all-around athlete during her school years. At Lake Forest, she played basketball, swam, ran track and played on the boys' soccer team. She played basketball at Caesar Rodney High School and excelled on the girls' soccer team. She was fearless on the field. She graduated from Caesar Rodney High School in 2004.
In 2010, she completed Air Force Basic Training at Lackland AFB, Texas. Katie became a proud member of the Air Force Reserves and worked as a Fuel Systems Specialist on the C-5 aircraft at Dover AFB until 2015 when she received an honorable discharge due to injuries sustained from an automobile accident.
Katie worked many jobs from Landscaping, Sales, and ran Post Offices at Kenton and Little Creek. At the time of her death, she was studying to become a Medical Assistant at Harris Business School.
Katie was a huge Broncos fan, loved to read and was a talented sketch artist. She loved music and her favorites were Garth Brooks, Jimmy Hendrix, Bouncing Souls and Nirvana. She saw the good in everyone and never judged.
She was preceded in death by her beloved grandfather, David Joyner; and grandmother, Ruth Collier. Katie is survived by her biggest love, her son, Mars Vigil; her parents, Tom and Tina Barnes of Dover; her brothers, Russell (and Lacie) Barnes of Bozeman, Mont., Spencer Barnes, Dover; her sisters, Angela Sheppard of Felton, Kaylee Collier of Wilmington; her grandmother, JoAnn Joyner; and grandparents, Alvin and Pat Barnes of Dover; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Shepherd Place, 1362 S. Governors Ave., Dover, DE 19904.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where friends may gather from 2 to 3 p.m. Service at 3 p.m.
The most painful goodbyes
