Magnolia - Catherine Constance "Connie" Young passed away Saturday, July 28, 2018, in the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford.
Catherine was born Sept. 27, 1935 in Philadelphia, Pa., the daughter of the late Peter and Dorothy Marcavage, of Philadelphia, Pa.
Catherine was a member and Past President of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Sodality at Dover A.F.B.; a life member and Past President of the Enlisted Spouses Club on Dover A.F.B.; a life member and Past President of Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxilliary; and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxilliary.
Catherine accompanied her husband on his Air Force assignments throughout his military career, finally settling in Magnolia.
Catherine's favorite time of the year was during Christmas. It was at this time that she turned her talents towards making her well-received gingerbread houses. She began making the gingerbread houses in 1969 while living in Germany. She made upwards of forty gingerbread houses a year and always gave them to her friends.
Her husband, Francis X. Young, Sr., preceded her in death. They had been married for 63 years. Catherine is survived by her six sons, Francis X. Young, Jr., of Newark, Peter W. Young, of Alton, Ill., Teddy D. Young, of El Paso, Texas, Liam R. Young, of Harrison, Maine, Thomas D. Young, of Dover and Lawrence P. Young, of Magnolia. She is also survived by her extended family and many friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2018, in the Church of the Holy Cross, 631 South State St., Dover. Burial will follow in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 407, Camden, DE 19934.
