Catherine Luvenia Tingle, 100

MILFORD - Catherine Luvenia Tingle of Milford died Friday, Nov. 10, 2006, in Genesis Elder Care, Milford. She was 100.

Mrs. Tingle was born Nov. 8, 1906, in Lincoln, daughter of the late James and Nettie Ross.

She was a faithful member of New Hope Baptist Church, Brooklyn, N.Y., for many years before retiring as a domestic worker. After retirement, she returned to Bethel A.M.E. Church and belonged to several organizations within the church.

Mrs. Tingle was president of the Mabel J. Parker-Stewart Negro Council of Women, a gospel singer, a member of the Eastern Star and led an active spiritual life, putting God first.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Tingle; two brothers, James Ross and Ellick Baynard; two sisters, Alberta Derrell and Ethel Cannon; and two sons, Lorenzo Ross and Emory Tingle.

She is survived by a daughter, Blanche M. Gaddis; three grandsons and two granddaughters-in-law, Tony and Deborah Ross, Zachary Gaddis and Albert and Linda Pettyjohn; two granddaughters and two grandsons-in-law, Estelle and James Williams and Emilie and Joseph Tingle; 14 great-grandchildren, Peter, Patrick, Paul, Robbin, Toye, Trayne, Brie, Tanesha, Tameka, Brandon, Zepherine, Jayzine, Leatrice and Cathy; 17 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Mount Enon Baptist Church, where friends may call from 11:45 a.m.

Burial will be in Old Hickory Cemetery, Lincoln.
