Cassie Virginia DeShields, 70 SEAFORD - Cassie Virginia DeShields passed away Sunday, July 20, 2008, very quietly and peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer now free from pain and enfolded in the loving care of God. She entered into eternal rest in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital. She was 70. "Mickey", as she was affectionately known, was the middle child of seven born to the late John L. and Orlean F. Benton on Oct. 20, 1937, in Anson County, N.C. In 1980, she re-met her former love Frederick M. DeShields, and in 1981 they were united in Holy Matrimony. In 1991, they relocated to Laurel, where they made their home. Mrs. DeShields retired from Invista at E.I. DuPont in Seaford, when her health began to fail. Mrs. DeShields leaves to cherish her loving memories one daughter, Anita D. Benjamin of High Point, N.C.; one son, Hykeem R. Williams Sr. of Princess Anne, Md,; two granddaughters, La'Quanda M. Johnson of Laurel and Emma G. Terry of High Point, N.C.; three grandsons, Hykeem R. Williams Jr. and Zyaire Williams, of Dover, and Donald L. Terry of High Point, N.C.; one great-grandson, Erroll M.V. Stewart Jr.; one great-granddaughter, Aunnicece N. Stewart of Laurel; two goddaughters; one godson; five stepsons; three brothers; one sister; one brother-in-law, Lonnie E. Davis of Paulsboro, N.J.; one sister-in-law, Lola Benton of Camden, N.J., and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday in the Refuge Temple Revival Center, 455 Front Street, Seaford. A viewing will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, in the Refuge Temple Revival Center. Burial will be in Delaware Veteran's Cemetery, Millsboro. Arrangements are being handled by Young and McPherson Funeral Home, Seaford.
