DOVER - Carrie H. Simmons of Dover died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2007, in the Silver Lake Nursing Home, Dover. She was 95.

Ms. Simmons was born Feb. 16, 1911, in Baydie"s Court, Wilmington, daughter of the late Phillip and Lydia Smith.

She was educated and trained to be a practical nurse. She worked for a number of years prior to having a stroke.

Upon moving to Dover, Ms. Simmons lived in several senior citizens" homes including the Queen Manor, Mishoe Towers and Luther Towers. In 1998, she was admitted to the Silver Lake Nursing Home, where she remained until her demise. In 2006, she became third runner-up in the Silver Lake Guardian Angel Pageant.

She was a very independent, yet private, lady who loved to cook and shop before her illness. In spite of her sickness, she had a strong and determined faith. She enjoyed watching television and loved the religious services.

In 1989, Ms. Simmons joined Calvary Baptist Church. She was a faithful attendee until her admittance to Silver Lake Nursing Home. She truly loved her pastor and Calvary. She was a member of the Tribe of Dan, a women"s ministry group at the church. She also relied on the Rev. "Connie" Phillips and the Rev. Larry Fennell, who ministered to her and assisted her with personal and business affairs.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George J. Simmons.

She is survived by her church family who mourn her passing.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Calvary Baptist Church, Queen and Fulton streets, Dover, where friends may call two hours earlier.

Burial will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.

Arrangements by Minus Funeral Home, Dover.
