Calver H. Everett, 95
MILFORD - Calver H. Everett of Milford died Monday, June 25, 2007, in the Milford Healthcare Center. He was 95.
Mr. Everett was born Nov. 5, 1911, in Chesapeake City, Md., son of the late Hiram and Ann Elizabeth (Hudson) Everett.
In 1976, at the age of 62, he retired from the Capital School District and moved to Florida with his wife, Nancy. They lived in St. Petersburg for many years before returning to Delaware.
Mr. Everett enjoyed his retirement with his family and friends and was an avid reader of history.
He was one of the Greatest Generation, raised in a home with no electricity or plumbing at a time when automobiles were scarce and travel was by horse and buggy.
Mr. Everett attended a one-room schoolhouse and received his first Bible from his teacher in 1924.
He married during the Great Depression and served as a U.S. Army Air Force observer during World War II.
Mr. Everett worked for many years as a delivery driver for Diamond State Dairies and also for a local plumbing business.
He and his wife enjoyed boating and spent many of their years cruising the Chester River on their boat, the Nancy J.
One of his greatest accomplishments was hand-building a wooden sailboat at his home in Dover.
Mr. Everett was a life member of the Capitol Grange and the Coast Guard Auxiliary.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Nancy J. Everett; and two sisters, Yola Dukes and Florence Argo.
Mr. Everett is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley Ann and Francis Nichols of Dover; a sister, Sarah Pienkowski of Wilmington; three grandsons and three granddaughters-in-law, Francis Nichols Jr. and Diana Nichols of Chestertown, Md., Jon Nichols and Melanie Nichols, and Michael Nichols and Carole Nichols, all of Dover; six great-grandchildren, Jonny Nichols and his wife, Susan, Robert Nichols and his wife, Ariane, and Matthew Nichols, all of Dover, Heather Nichols of Chestertown, and Tina and Justin Nichols of Dover; and one great-great-grandson, Jon Wesley Nichols of Dover.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Thursday in the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 West Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Wyoming United Methodist Church Building Fund, 112 Broad St., Wyoming, DE 19934.
