Caaesar Rodney among three Henlopen teams to reach girls' lacrosse semis

Third-seeded Caesar Rodney tallied the game’s first five goals before topping No. 6 Tower Hill, 11-9, in the DIAA girls’ lacrosse state quarterfinals on Saturday.

The victory sends the Riders (13-3) to Tuesday’s semifinals, where they will face second-seeded Tatnall at Caravel at 7 p.m. The defending state-champion Hornets (15-1) beat No. 7 Wilmington Friends, 17-3, on Saturday.

CR got three goals from Logan Fuchs (1 assist) and two apiece from Delaney Miklus, Brooke Roberts (1 assist) and Ella Brown. Lyndsey Weller and Alexis Riley added the Riders’ other two goals.

Junior goalie Ava Brown made 10 saves, including the 100th of her career. CR led only 8-7 before out-scoring the Hillers, 3-2, in the fourth quarter.

Sussex Academy 19, Ursuline 9: The fifth-seeded Seahawks knocked off the No. 4 Raiders on the road on Saturday.

Sussex Academy (13-4) will get a rematch with top-seeded Cape Henlopen in Tuesday’s state semifinals in Milford at 5 p.m. The Seahawks lost to the Vikings, 19-6 on April 12.

Cape Henlopen 16, Archmere 7: The top-seeded Vikings advanced to the semifinals with the win on Saturday.

Cape Henlopen (16-0) will face No. 5 Sussex Academy at Milford on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Ally Diehl (1 assist) netted four goals with fellow freshman Haley Gamuciello adding three for the Vikings, who led 8-4 at halftime. Nine players scored goals for Cape Henlopen.

Goalie Anna Lopez made seven saves for the Vikings.

Boys’ volleyball

Caesar Rodney 3, Appoquinimink 2: The fifth-seeded Riders rallied to win the final two games and knock off the No. 4 Jaguars in the DIAA state tournament’s second round on Saturday.

CR (15-2), which had just notched the program’s first state tourney victory, won by scores of 25-15, 13-25, 24-26, 25-16, 15-11 in the grueling match.

The Riders now head to Wilmington on Tuesday to take on top-seeded Salesianum (18-0) in the state semifinals at 6 p.m.

Leading CR on Saturday were Aden Anderson (13 kills, 2 blocks, 6 digs), Aidan Webb (2 kills, 3 aces, 7 digs, 38 assists), Andrew Victory (8 kills, 1 block), Jamal Alsadrani (8 kills, 2 blocks, 5 digs), Xylord Martin (7 kills, 14 digs), Matthew Ascetta (7 kills, 1 ace, 1 block, 3 digs) and Terrence Proctor-Rangel (20 digs).

Cape Henlopen 3, Brandywine 0: The third-seeded Vikings advanced to the DIAA state semifinals with the win on Saturday.

Cape Henlopen topped the No. 11 Bulldogs by scores of 25-16, 25-17, 25-13.

The Vikings travel to No. 2 Wilmington Charter on Tuesday at 4 p.m. for a semifinal match.

In Saturday’s victory, Cape Henlopen was paced by Bryce Patterson (11 kills, 1 ace, 2 blocks, 4 digs), Tias Small (5 kills, 2 blocks, 6 digs) and Talan Stephens (4 kills, 2 aces, 1 block, 6 digs, 24 assists).

Wilmington Charter 3, Indian River 0: The No. 7 Indians fell to the No.2 Force by scores of 25-16, 25-19, 25-21 in the second-round match.

IR finishes with a record 9-7.

Girls’ soccer

Delmar 4, Delaware Military 0: Baylie Phillips netted three goals as the sixth-seeded Wildcats won a first-round game in the Division II state tournament on Saturday.

Delmar (12-4) next plays at No. 3 Caravel (12-0-2) on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the state quarterfinals.
Rylin Nichols added a goal and assist for the Wildcats, who led 2-0 at halftime.
