Bruce Edgar Dadswell, 77

CLAYTON - Bruce Edgar Dadswell, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009, in Bayhealth Medical Center, Dover. He was 77. He was born in Harriston, Ontario, Canada on Sept. 16, 1931. He and his family moved to Clayton, on June 6, 1964. He worked for the Town of Clayton and retired in the late 1980's. He was a life member of the Clayton Fire Company 1 Inc., and held the offices of Rescue Captain and Historian, as well as receiving the fireman of the year award in 1968. He was also a fifty-year member of Harriston Masonic Lodge 262. Bruce enjoyed horse racing and woodworking, and the most important things in life were his wife and family. He was loved and will be missed by his wife of 50 years, Helen Dadswell; his daughters, Patsy Schiller and husband Richard, of New Castle; and Beverly Whalen and husband Rodney, of Clayton; four grandchildren, Eric Schiller and his wife Jenny, Brittany Whalen, Amy Schiller, and Samantha Whalen; two great-grandchildren, Rylee and Jack Schiller; his twin sister, Beryl Smith and husband Lloyd, of Brussels, Ontario; a sister, Dorothy Fitzsimmons, of Windsor, Ontario; a brother, Roy Dadswell, of Owen Sound, Ontario; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to offer special thanks to the staff of ICU at Bayhealth Medical Center, Dover. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, where friends may call at 11 a.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Clayton Fire Company 1 Inc., P.O. Box 1050, Clayton, DE 19938.
