SEAFORD - Brenda K. Nichols Cottet, age 47, of Seaford, passed away at her home surrounded by her family and friends on Oct. 9, 2009. She was born in Seaford a daughter of George Wilbur Nichols and his wife Arlene of Seaford and her mother Joan O'Neal Hipps of Houston. Brenda attended school in Laurel was a homemaker and home interior consultant. As a child she was a Laurel Little League Girl Softball Team 4yr All-Star where played short stop and third base. Cherished memories include her love of yard work, decorating her home, cooking, bowling in Seaford League and homemaking. Her family will always treasure her as a wonderful mother whom stayed at home to raise her children and always putting the need of others before her own. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Jay Cottet of Seaford; her children, Christopher Van Zandt of Laurel, Nikki Van Zandt of Millsboro, and Katelyn Cottet of Seaford; stepchildren, Christopher and Erin Cottet of Florida; her sisters, Debra Cahall and husband Joe of Delmar, Donna O'Neal of Laurel, Melody Minton and husband David of Greenwood, Rhonda Halttunen and husband Bob of Bridgeville, Brenda Wilson and husband Delbert of Georgetown, Tina VandeMark of Arizonia; her brothers, Donald "Brooks" Nichols and wife Lynette of Laurel, Vincent Worster of Houston, Ronald Worster of Houston, Douglas Worster and wife Tracy of Laurel, George "Matthew" Nichols and wife Kristi of Seaford and Merlin VandeMark and wife Brenda of Bethel; a grandson, Wyatt Jay Taylor of Seaford; her mother and father-in-law, Lorraine and Gordon Cottet of Alburn, N.Y.; sister-in-law, Sherry Mendoza; a special friend, Charlie Wright of Houston; and many loving nieces, nephews and aunts and uncles. She was preceded in death by her stepdad, Vaughn Worster whom passed in 1972, and her grandparents. A Memorial Service will be 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 16, at Central Worship Center, 14545 Sycamore Road, Laurel, where friends may visit with her family from 1 to 2 p.m. The Rev. Tim Dukes and Ron Jester will officiate. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her memory to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963; or American Cancer Society, 1138 Parsons Rd., Salisbury, MD 21803. Arrangements are by the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home, Laurel.
