SALISBURY, Md. - Billy Richard Stephens of Salisbury passed away early Sunday morning, Aug. 12, 2007, in his home. He was 67.
Born in Salisbury, he was the son of the late William Albert and Martha (Taylor) Stephens.
He retired in 1992 with 28 years of service as a manufacturing supervisor for E.I. DuPont in Seaford, Del.
Mr. Stephens graduated from Goldey-Beacom College in 1962 with a degree in general business.
He formerly was a resident of Hebron for 38 years and Seaford for 26 years before moving to Salisbury in 2004.
Mr. Stephens was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Salisbury, a 32nd Degree Mason, member of Gethsemane Lodge 28, A.F. & A.M. of Reliance, Del., Tall Cedars of Lebanon 53, Eastern Shore Chapter of Salisbury, Nur Temple Shrine in Wilmington, Del., Moose Lodge 654 and Legion of the Moose in Salisbury, AARP and was a Maryland and Wicomico County 4-H Club All Star.
He was also past vice president of Isle of Wight Co-op Board in Ocean City, past president of Tri-Town Jaycees, an Exhausted Rooster of Tri-Town and a past president of Salisbury Chapter of Parents without Partners.
Mr. Stephens was an avid Jeff Gordon NASCAR fan and collector and a Hess truck collector.
He enjoyed sports and was an avid fan of the Baltimore Orioles, Delmarva Shorebirds, Washington Redskins and the Baltimore Ravens.
Mr. Stephens loved classic cars and once owned a classic yellow 1929 Gazelle.
He especially enjoyed dining out, card games and traveling with his wife, Kay.
Mr. Stephen"s favorite activities included family visits with children, grandchildren, family and friends.
He was preceded in death by a twin brother, Robert Stephens; a stepson, John Frazier; and a nephew, George Stephens.
Mr. Stephens is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Carol "Kay" Stephens; his daughter, Sheri Pruitt and her husband James Pruitt Sr. of Lynchburg, Va.; a son, Todd Stephens and his wife Renee of Salisbury; a son, Keith Stephens and his wife Susan of Fayetteville, N.C.; a stepson, Curtis Mannah and his wife Pamela of Stockton, Calif.; his grandchildren, James Pruitt, Jessica Pruitt, Jason Stephens, Ross Stephens, Ryan Ikeya, Gavin Stephens, Victoria Mannah and John Mannah; a sister, Jean Smith and her husband Carroll of Delmar, Del.; a sister-in-law, Patricia O. Stephens of Ocean City; a niece, Lisa Smith; and two nephews, Stephen Smith and Robert Stephens Jr.
A funeral service will be 11 a.m. today in the Christ U.M.C., with a visitation one hour prior to the service.
There will be a visitation with Masonic Service from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Holloway Funeral Home.
Interment will be 2:30 p.m. today in the Hebron Cemetery.
Officiating will be the Rev. Tom Hurley and the Rev. Howard Travers.
Instead of flowers, contributions may be made to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802; or Christ United Methodist Church"s Building Fund, 211 Phillip Morris Drive, Salisbury, MD 21804.
Arrangements are in the care of Holloway Funeral Home Professional Association, 501 Snow Hill Road, Salisbury.
