CAMDEN - Betty L. Rose passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at the Milford Center. She battled for five months after suffering a traumatic brain injury. Mrs. Rose was born Aug. 23, 1948 in Holyoke, Mass., to John L. DeLoach and the late Ruth M. Tyning DeLoach. She received her education at the University of Delaware which is where she met her husband. Mrs. Rose worked as a pre-school teacher for St. John's and Booker T. Washington Elementary School where she taught in the ECAP Program. She loved children and making a difference in their lives. Mrs. Rose was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Dover. She was a warrior in every sense of the word. She defeated stage IV breast cancer, brain tumors, Stevens-Johnson Syndrome, mini-strokes, blood clots, and a ruptured appendix. She inspired us with her incredible strength and determination. She always put family first and never missed a game, school function, or celebration for her children or grandchildren. Her grandchildren were the light of her life and she always showered them with love and praise and delighted in their ornery streaks (which she passed on to them). She was as sweet as she was tough and managed to always smile through her pain. She loved to have fun and was always the life of the party. She left behind an incredible legacy and showed us that it doesn't matter how heavily the odds are stacked against you. Never give up hope because if you have lost hope you have lost everything. She was preceded in death by her mother; and her sister, Cheryl Colvard, who was her only sibling and best friend. She is survived by her husband of 45 and a half years, LTC (Ret) Alexander "Al" Rose, of Camden; children, Alison Justiniano and her husband, Ed, of Camden, Daniel Rose and his wife, Kelly, of Voorhees, N.J., and John Rose and his wife, Carley, of Middletown; grandchildren, Owen, Callen, and Matheson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 noon, Thursday, June 16, 2016 at Holy Cross Catholic Church 631 S. State Street, Dover, DE, 19901. Friends may call from 7 to 9 Wednesday evening at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Breast Cancer Alliance, 48 Maple Avenue, Greenwich, CT, 06830. Letters of condolences may be sent and guest book signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
