Betty Jane Downes

MILFORD - Betty Jane Downes, a long-time resident of Milford, died peacefully at home on Monday, Jun. 12, 2017.
Born on Aug. 9, 1931, she was the daughter of Mary E. Passwaters Kovach and Frederick B. Wilkerson.
She was a 1950 graduate of Greenwood High School. An avid bowler, she loved to spend time with her bowling friends, traveling to several cities across the country to compete. She also dedicated many years to managing the Junior Bowling League at Milford Bowling Lanes, teaching youth the sport she loved.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Edwin L. Wilkerson; and a sister, Stella Wilkerson.
She is survived by her children, John (Yolanda) Jenkins, of Texas, Darwin Downes, of Maryland, Cheryl Jones, of Delaware and Ellen (Robert) Thorn, of Pennsylvania. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and a nephew.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the Delaware Hospice for their dedication and support.
Interment will be held privately at St. Johnstown Cemetery in Greenwood.
Arrangements in the care of Berry-Short Funeral Home, Milford.
