Betty D. Brown, 83

DALLAS, TEXAS - Betty D. Brown, formerly of Dover, died Thursday, June 18, 2009, in her residence with family present. She was 83. Born in Greensboro, Pa. on Feb. 13, 1926, Mrs. Brown was a daughter of the late Abraham Dennis and Murial Thomas Dennis. She earned her bachelor's degree in English from Waynesburg College in 1948, taught high school for one year, and would go on to serve her country as a lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War from 1949 to 1952. A talented homemaker throughout her life, Mrs. Brown was a devoted mother to her three sons and was active in Boy Scouts of America during their childhood. All three sons achieved Eagle Scout. She was a former Cub Scout den mother, and also served as a counselor for the Citizenship in the Community and Citizenship in the Nation merit badges. Her beloved husband of 42 years, William R. Brown, died in 1993. She is survived by her sons, Robert R. Brown of Dallas, Texas; David L. Brown of Harker Heights, Texas; and William K. Brown of Newark; brothers, Harold Dennis of Jarards Fort, Pa., and Wilbur Dennis of Eustis, Fla.; sister, Garnett Dunlap of Arizona; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A committal service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, 2009 in the chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.
