SMYRNA - Mrs. Betty Ann DiAngelo, 82, of Smyrna, passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2014 at Kent General Hospital. Born in Wilmington, on September 25, 1931, she attended the Arden School followed by the Greensboro School. Betty possessed a lifelong love of learning and a passion for reading. Her fondness for animals was evident by the many fortunate strays which she had adopted as her own in her earlier years and her support of various organizations that provided for animals in need. As one who found great beauty in nature and architecture, she was most happy when in her lovely gardens enjoying the shining sun. Betty was predeceased by her husband, Bill DiAngelo; her parents, William Edwin Pierce and Mildred Cannon Pierce; and her nephew, William E. Pierce III. She is survived by her brother, William E. Pierce, Jr.; nephews, Robert Pierce and Bruce Pierce; nieces, Lori Manning and Ursula Gardner; in addition to a host of great-nieces and great-nephews. Services will be 2 p.m., Sunday, May 18, 2014 at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home 370 Cypress St. Millington, Md. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Sudlersville Cemetery in Sudlersville, Md. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Betty's memory to the Kent County SPCA, 32 Shelter Circle, Camden-Wyoming, DE 19934.
