Koch Matone, 66 DOVER - Betsy Koch Matone, of Dover, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 15, 2011, at the Hospice Center in Milford, surrounded by loving family and friends. Betsy was born on January 4, 1945, to the late, Charles and Kathryn Koch of San Diego, Calif. She graduated with a B.S. in Child Development from Penn State University and later from Rice University with a Masters Degree in Psychology. Upon arrival in Delaware, she taught in the Laurel School District. After leaving Teaching, she counseled for the Turnabout Agency in Seaford, before becoming owner, CEO and Counselor for Chrysalis, Inc. of Dover. Betsy taught Psychology and the Humanities at Wesley College in Dover until her retirement in 2008. Betsy enjoyed traveling and experiencing new places with her husband of 24 years, Michael Matone. She recently had taken a cruise to Alaska, and had traveled to Thailand to participate in her son Mark's wedding. While there she visited her daughter-in-law Amojai's family, and took advantage of an opportunity to use an elephant as transport. Betsy very much enjoyed time spent with her family and everyone loved hearing her stories about the loves of her life, grand-daughters Maia and Sasha. Betsy loved animals and children, and never met a child under the age of two that she did not love at first sight. She was very drawn to butterflies, their beauty and symbolism. She was an accomplished photographer, and was well recognized for her flower and butterfly artwork. Betsy will be sorely missed by all who knew her generous nature, and her ability to spread good cheer. Those fortunate enough to have her good counsel were blessed with the wisdom given through kindness and forgiveness. Betsy was preceded in death by her parents, and recently by her beloved pet Bichon, Muffin. In addition to her husband, Michael Matone of Dover, she is survived by two sons, Bradley Hartman of Arlington, Va. and his wife Shari Klevens; their two daughters, Maia and Sasha; son Mark Hartman and wife Aomjai Chachuporn-Hartman of Centerville, Va; her brother, Charles D. Koch and his wife Marilyn of Hershey, Penn; her husband Michael's family, mother-in-law, Anna Bagdan; three step-daughters, Beverly Hirt, Donna M. Claveloux, Alicia K. Sumptner; two step-sons, Anthony Matone III, and Joseph D. Matone; her husband Michael's ten grand children; and six great-grandchildren. Friends may call Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011, starting at 11 a.m. at the Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso 1175 S. State St. Dover. Mass will be offered at 1 p.m. in Holy Cross Catholic Church S. State St. Dover. Interment will be private. Family suggests donations in her memory to the American Liver Foundation 1341 N. Delaware Ave. # 209 Phila., PA. 19125.
