Bessie V. Atkinson, 91

KENNEDYVILLE, Md. - Bessie V. Atkinson of Kennedyville died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007 in her home. She was 91.

Mrs. Atkinson was born Aug. 3, 1916, in Felton, Del., daughter of the late Charles and Emma (Stubbs) Reed.

She moved to Chestertown in the 1970s, where she worked for Foxley Manor Motel for more than 20 years.

Mrs. Atkinson moved to Kennedyville in 1997.

She enjoyed bingo, flower gardening and yard sales.

She was preceded in death by a son, James O. Reed; stepson, John C. Atkinson Jr.; granddaughter, Michelle Abbott; and great-granddaughter, Michaela Jester.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years, John C. "Kip" Atkinson; seven children, Charles Ray Reed and his wife Alice, Frankie Griffith and his wife Doris, and Bert Griffith, all of Milford, Del., Jean Ellerbusch of Houston, Del., Irene Terroy and her husband Bill of Bridgeville, Del., Carolyn Pace of Sandtown, Del., and Dolores Jester of Rock Hall; two stepchildren, Dennis Atkinson of Pikesville, and JoAnne Morris of Federalsburg; a sister, Rae Dudrinski of Newark, Del.; close niece, Irene Rodulski and her husband Stanley of Newark; special friends, Pam Lowe and Bob Whitelock; 25 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., where friends may call one hour prior.

Burial will be in Chester Cemetery, Chestertown.
