Bessie Marie DeRan

DOVER - Bessie Marie DeRan died on Monday, April 16, 2018, at Cadia Healthcare in Dover after a brief illness.
She was the wife of the late Orville E. Farrington and the ex-wife of the late James DeRan. Mrs. DeRan was born in Pylesville, Md. on Dec. 20, 1934, a daughter of the late Roy Amoss and Emma Jane (Webb) Smithson. A lifetime Harford County resident she was raised on the family farm and always enjoyed the farm life. Mrs. DeRan moved to her son's home in Delaware three years ago. She was employed at Aberdeen Proving Ground and was the customer service manager for the commissary for almost 20 years prior to her retirement. A member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Pylesville she enjoyed church, traveling and bowling in her younger years.
She is survived by her son, Thomas E. Farrington and his companion, Karen Marvel of Dover; her grandson, Thomas E. Farrington, Jr.; two great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2018, at 1:30 p.m. at the Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main Street, Delta, Pa.
Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
Interment will be in St. Paul Cemetery, Pylesville, Md.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Maryland SPCA, Development Office, 3300 Falls Road, Baltimore, MD 21211 would be appreciated.
Funeral staff will be assisting with parking and handicap needs during the viewing and funeral service.
