Barbara Ullman, a 1967 graduate of South Philadelphia High School and retired loan manager, passed away December 25, 2020 in Dover.
Born in Philadelphia, Pa. on September 3, 1949, Barbara met her future husband of 53 years, Jim, while in grammar school. Marrying shortly after high school, they raised their children in Swarthmore and Aston in Delaware County, Pa. Upon retiring to Dover in 2008 Barbara found fulfillment in her work with the National Capital Therapy Dogs organization by taking her dog Bitsy, along with her friend Nancy and her dog Abbie, to local nursing homes and senior centers to bring smiles to those who needed it most. She also found great joy in cooking and baking for family, community events and Philadelphia Eagles viewing parties. Barbara was also skilled at various crafts and enjoyed interior design.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Warren Stinger and Joan "Luning"; as well as her two younger brothers, Warren 'Pete' Jr. and Richard Stinger.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Jim; daughter, Joann M. Walter (Carl) of Middletown, Del.; son, Matthew J. Ullman (Janet) of Boothwyn, Pa.; and grandchildren, Samantha Walter, Jessica Walter, Justin Shryock and Erik Shryock.
Due to Covid restrictions, there will be no memorial services at this time. A celebration of life will be held at a later date to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Juvinile diabbetes research foundation.
Letters of condolence may be sent and guestbook signed at www.torbertfuneral.com
