DOVER - Barbara L. Saunders, of Dover, departed this life Thursday, March 13, 2008, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover, with her devoted husband and family by her side.

Born July 9, 1942, in Salem, N.J., Barbara was the daughter of Marian B. Pitts and William A. Brummell.

Barbara attended Paul Lawrence Dunbar, Camden-Wyoming, and William Henry, Dover.

Prior to her lengthy illness, she worked various jobs.

Barbara was a member of Greater Love Temple, Milford.

She loved reading God's word and enjoyed cooking and crocheting.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Troy Brummell; daughter-in-law, Alfreda Brummell; and brothers, Robert L. Ross, Kenneth J. Pitts and Christopher M. Pitts.

She is survived by her husband, Ginius "J.C." Saunders; her daughter, Debra Martinez of Lillington, N.C.; her sons, Guy Brummell of Smyrna and Tyrell Brummell of Newark; stepchildren and their spouses, Jennifer and Christopher Moore of Dover, Ginius and Regina Johns of Harrington and Tammy Johns of Dover; six sisters, Jean Thomas of Wilmington, Carolyn Brummell of Denver, Janice Delice of Harrington, Sandra Ross of Harrington, Elsie Smith of Canterbury and Catherine Sawyer of Camden; four brothers, John Pitts of Dover, Courtland Pitts of Wilmington, Charles Pitts of Smyrna and Garfield Pitts of Virginia Beach, Va.; sisters-in-law, Nathalie Pitts of Williamsville, Cheryl Pitts of Dover, Dolly Mae William of Smithfield, Va., Julie Pitts of Virginia Beach and Gladys Herring of Philadelphia; brothers-in-law, Roger Smith of Canterbury, Ernest Saunders of Norfolk, Va., and Lewis Saunders of Dover; and a host of grand and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in the Greater Love Temple, 987 S. Bay Road, Milford, where friends may call one hour before services.

Burial will be at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the funeral home to help with expenses.

Arrangements are by Pippin Funeral Home, Wyoming.
