GREENWOOD - Barbara Helen Gorton O'Bier, 71, of Greenwood, passed away on Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at the Milford Center. Barbara was born in Warren, Pa. the daughter of the late Horace Nugent and Lillian (Swanson) Gorton. Barbara graduated from Warren Area High School in 1961, from Baldwin - Wallace College in Berea, Ohio with a teachers degree in 1963; and from Salisbury University, Salisbury, MD with a Bachelors Degree in Education in 1971 and a Masters Degree in Education in 1977. Barbara worked as an Administrative Assistant to Managed Government Sales at the corporate offices of the Glidden Company in Cleveland Ohio from 1963 - 1967. Barbara married the love of her life, Russell Joseph O'Bier in 1967. After Barbara and her husband moved to Delaware, she became an elementary teacher for the Milford School District, teaching at Benjamin Banneker Elementary School from 1973 until her retirement in 2001. She enjoyed traveling, reading and line dancing. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Russell Joseph O'Bier on July 12, 2014. She is survived by two children, Todd Russell O'Bier, his wife Corrie and their children Allie, James, Trent of Las Vegas, Nev.; and Stephanie Lynne Gorney, her husband Darren and their daughter Mia, of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; one sister, Phyllis O'Neill; two nieces, Kathy Bimber and Karen Lyle; and one nephew, Perry O'Neill, all of Warren, Pa.; and two cousins, Bob Koebley and his wife Barbara, of Pittsburgh, Pa. and Lisa Clepper Nelson of Warren, Pa. Funeral services will be 12 p.m., Saturday, January 3, 2015 at the Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Avenue, Milford where friends may call from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Burial will be in St. Johnstown Cemetery, Greenwood. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to either Union United Methodist Church, 2 North Laws St, Bridgeville, DE 19933 or to the Calvary United Methodist Church, 301 S. E. Front Street, Milford, DE 19963.
