Born in Philadelphia, Mrs. Spence was the daughter of the late David C. Oakes and Eleanor (Fortin) Oakes.
She lived most of her life in Newark and Harrington.
In addition to being a mother and homemaker, Mrs. Spence worked as a greeter at Bennie's Junction in Harrington for 25 years.
Her great joys in life were her family and her two dogs, Sage and Raven.
She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Mrs. Spence is survived by her husband, Dale L. Spence Sr. of Harrington; two sons, Brian R. Vincent of Middletown and Bret M. Vincent of Ottawa; one stepdaughter, Jennifer L. Sowers of Felton; one stepson, Dale L. Spence Jr. of Indianapolis; two sisters, Karen Donato of Wilmington and Sharon Fletcher of Middletown; one brother, David Oakes of Newark; and six grandchildren, Aidan, Roman, Griffin, Lydia, Elijah and Ryan.
A memorial service will be 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Denton Wesleyan Church, 811 Market St., Denton, Md., where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
The interment will be private.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the American Cancer Society, Mid-South Division, Attn: Shirley Watters, 1100 Ireland Way, Suite 300, Birmingham, AL 35205.
