Barbara Ann Culver, 87
CAMDEN - Barbara Ann Culver passed away Sunday, January 30, 2022, at Polaris Nursing Home in Milford.
She was born October 7, 1934, in Brooklyn, New York to the late Thomas Malone and Nansi Malone.
Barbara was a devoted and loving daughter whose parents instilled in her a deep appreciation of family. These family values rolled into her incredible energy, dedication, and determination to her children. As a single mother, she went out of her way to make sure that her children grew up with a sense of self-worth and her staunch determination to succeed against all odds. She kept the children active in outdoor activities and made sure that they had a well-rounded appreciation of the arts, introducing them to a wide range of cultural performances. With her family in the center of her existence, Sunday dinners were a must. These dinners offered a wide variety of meals from a diverse cultural menu. Sunday and Birthday dinners were always a very special time for family. Barbara had a sharp sense for business and her career experience was wide, as she was known to work multiple jobs from waitress to bookkeeper to an executive for a medical devices company. One of her successful endeavors, was to open and run a custom bridal salon. Her work ethic always centered around providing a life full of experience for her children. Upon retiring from the medical device company, Barbara retired with her husband Wesley C. Culver and together they moved to Myrtle Beach, S.C., where with her unyielding drive became a realtor. True to form and with family at the center, Barbara and Wesley moved to Dover, Del. in order to be closer to the growing number of grandchildren. The Culvers spent time with the family, spending the holidays and birthdays with those that were most important to them, Barbara's children, and their grandchildren. Barbara and Wesley lived in Dover, Del. until both of their passing. Always vibrant with a twinkle in her eye, Barbara had a quick, keen whit and she always lit up the room when she entered. She was active, both socially and in local organizations including Republican Women of Kent County, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the YMCA. Barbara was the true matriarch of the family. She was a no nonsense, stoic, independent thinker who put thousands of hours into research as the family historian. Her other passion, which she embraced whole heartedly was to see the world which she did with her typical "all in" approach, having circled the globe. She will be truly missed by those whose lives she has touched.
In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Culver.
She is survived by her brother, Richard Malone; and her loving children, Edward Castellon, Elaine Nolan, Christopher Castellon and Ronald Castellon; grandchildren, Caitlynn Moore, Jamie Nolan, Megan Nolan, Katie Nolan, Tommy Castellon, Nathan Castellon, Kyle Castellon, Ryan Castellon and Connor Castellon; great grandchildren, Andrew Nolan, Genevieve Nolan and a girl arriving in June.
Private services will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, P.O. Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5014.
