WILLOW STREET, Pa. - Aurelius Franklin Chapman of Willow Street died, Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006, in The Lakeside at Willow Valley. He was 93.
Mr. Chapman was born Dec. 7, 1913, in Cherokee County, Ga., son of the late John C. and Grace (Beavers) Chapman.
He received a bachelors degree from the University of Georgia, a masters degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a doctorate from the University of Maryland.
Mr. Chapman retired from DuPont, where he was employed as a research chemist for 36 years.
He lived in Wilmington, Del., for over 30 years.
Mr. Chapman was a member of The First United Methodist Church in Lancaster, Phi Beta Kappa, and the American Chemical Society. Earlier in life, he had been active in the Peninsula Conference of the United Methodist Church serving as district lay leader for two years and as a conference lay leader for eight years
He is survived by his wife, Mary Angeline (Skidmore) Chapman; a daughter and a son-in-law, Karen and James Bickley of Annandale, Va.; a son, Craig Philip Chapman of Stockbridge, Ga.; three grandchildren and a spouse, Katie and Chris Endicott of Apex, N.C., Mollie Bickley of Pasadena, Calif., and Caroline Bickley of Annandale, Va.; and three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Elaine Davenport of Marietta, Ga., Glennis and James Reese of Eustis, Fla., and Johnnie Grace and Jack Johnson of Smyrna, Ga.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Board of Child Care of the United Methodist Church, 3300 Gaither Road, Baltimore, MD 21244.
