August Earl 'Auggie' Western, 91
MILFORD - August Earl "Auggie" Western, of Milford, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008, at Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital. He was 91.
Mr. Western was born in Cranbury, N.J., son of the late Edward and Anna Paulina (Hand) Western.
He was a graduate of Middlesex Vocational School, New Brunswick, N.J.
After graduation he served with the New Jersey National Guard, 112th Field Artillery and Calvary, Lawrenceville, N.J.
He worked for many years as a poultry specialist beginning with Cranbury (N.J.) Poultry. He moved to Milford in 1947 to manage the Sussex Poultry Co. He later worked for the Rodney Feed Co., Milford Packing Co. and Young and Revel, before retiring in 1976.
He was a member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Milford.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Grace Hlucky; and his brother, William E. Western.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Lillian Theresa (Murphy) Western; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Dr. Karl A. and Aileen Western of Washington, D.C., Edward D. and Virginia Western of Kingston, Tenn., Paul W. of Milford and Michael S. and Patricia Western of New Castle; two daughters and sons-in-law, Helene A. and John Diskau and Joan W. and Sudler Lofland, all of Milford; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Seabury Avenue and School Place, Milford, where friends may call after 10 a.m.
An evening visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. on Monday at the Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Ave., Milford.
Interment will be in Henlopen Memorial Park, Milton.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St. John's Catholic Church, 506 Seabury Ave., Milford, DE 19963; or to the August Western Memorial Education Fund, 213 Veterans Circle, Milford, DE 19963.
