SMYRNA - Arthur LeAndrus Jackson of Smyrna departed this life Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2007, in Christiana Care-Christiana Hospital, Newark. He was 41.

He was born Sept. 5, 1966, in Salina, Kan., son of Isaiah and Mary Jackson.

Mr. Jackson received his education in the Capital School District, Dover.

He joined the U.S. Navy in 1984, completing an honorable discharge in 1992.

Mr. Jackson was then united in holy matrimony to Elizabeth Hampton on April 11, 1992.

He was employed with the Department of Correction as a sergeant until his illness.

Mr. Jackson established an excellent relationship with public service and it was shown throughout his life.

He was a member of the Mt. Olive Pentecostal Church of Smyrna under the pastoralship of Elder Constance Beach. For a period of time he also served under the leadership of Elder Hazel Williams and Elder James Combs of Hartly.

Mr. Jackson loved to sing and had a very special voice of song. He directed The Mighty Men of God Choir at Mt. Olive Pentecostal Church. Mr. Jackson especially loved to render the song "I Won"t Complain," a song of commitment from the Lord, and that song was very much his perseverance during his illness.

He was well liked, some say jubilant and cheerful, and always had a smile and a wave for everyone.

Mr. Jackson"s favorite scripture was Isaiah 54:17, "No weapon formed against me shall prosper."

He was a member of Walter Fox Post 2 of Dover.

Mr. Jackson loved to be very social and a very recognizable jokester.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Minnie L. Berry.

Mr. Jackson leaves to mourn his loving wife, Elizabeth A. Jackson of Smyrna; four sons, Taevon J. Jackson of the home, Antwuan S. Hampton and Keon Hampton, both of Dover, and Cory Hampton of Smyrna; two grandsons, Davonte Collins of Hartly, and Amari Collins of Baton Rouge, La.; his mother, Mary Walker Jackson of Dover; his father, Isaiah Jackson of Dagsboro; his mother-in-law, Betty E. Combs of Dover; two sisters, Theresa L. Jackson of Riverdale, Ga., and Deborah A. Jackson of Dover; a brother, Brian E. Jackson of St. Mary"s, Ga.; three sisters-in-law, Casandra L. White of Wilmington, Nannette Jackson of St. Mary"s, and Joyce Brittingham of Ellendale; three brothers–in-law, Joel White of Wilmington, Charles C. Hampton of Dover, and Ronald Brittingham of Ellendale; six nieces, Kena Jackson, Angelique Jackson, Janay Harris, Casandra Brittingham, Shonda Brittingham and Teneka Brittingham; five nephews, Antonio T. Carey Jackson, Charles Dickerson, Dennis Hampton, Ronald Brittingham and T.T. Brittingham; four aunts, Arnetia Walker Francis, Mattie Crawford, Minnie Walker and Shirley Walker; four uncles, Newman Crawford, Milton Walker, Robert Walker and Willie Walker; one great-aunt, Mary L. Smith; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Centennial United Methodist Church, 44 E. Mt. Vernon St., Smyrna.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Burial will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Chesapeake City Road, Bear.

Arrangements are by Pippin Funeral Home, Wyoming.
