MIDDLETOWN - Anthony J. Kobus of Middletown passed away peacefully Monday, Aug. 13, 2007, after a long illness, at Christiana Care-Christiana Hospital, Newark. He was 72.

Mr. Kobus was the son of the late B. Paul and Gertrude M. Kobus.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Nov. 2, 1934, he enjoyed all the borough had to offer his generation.

Mr. Kobus was an alumnus of Brooklyn Preparatory School and of Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.

It was at Georgetown that he met his wife of nearly 50 years, Kathleen Cruchley.

In 1960, Tony and Kathy brought their family to Delaware.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1956 to 1963.

Mr. Kobus was employed by Hercules Inc., in the advertising department, from 1960 until 1981.

In 1983, Tony became vice president of sales for Display Arts Studios until his retirement in 1999.

Mr. Kobus was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Wilmington and St. Joseph"s Parish in Middletown, where he and Kathy were married in 1957.

He was a member of the Middletown-Odessa Rotary Club, The Men of Malvern, served as volunteer Editor of the Springmill Community Newsletter, Chairman of the capital campaign for the Jean Birch MOT Senior Center, delivered Meals on Wheels and was a member of the board of directors of Associated Community Talents Inc.

In addition to his volunteer activities for many community organizations, Mr. Kobus enjoyed traveling, photography and being with family and friends.

He was always quick with a joke or entertaining story.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Kobus was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Kobus; and his in-laws, Dr. and Mrs. Allan R. Cruchley.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; their children, Mary Kobus Carrasco and her husband, Philip, and their children, Samuel and Anne, Kevin Kobus and his wife, Lisa, and their children, Christopher and Sara, Mark A. Kobus and his wife, Marlene, and their children, Jenna and Conner, and Karen Kegelman and her husband, Daniel, and their children, Elisabeth and Nina.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday in Immaculate Heart of Mary, 4701 Weldin Road, Wilmington. Family and friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown.

Interment will be in Old Bohemia Cemetery, Warwick, Md.

Instead of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Mr. Kobus" memory to the Jean Birch MOT Senior Center Building Fund, 300 S. Scott St., Middletown, DE 19709.
