HARRINGTON - Anne Paladino passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2018, at Bayhhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital. She was born to the late, Charles and Anna Fogliano.
Anne loved her family dearly. Her traditional Italian cooking will always be a part of her families' holidays and celebrations. She spread her love of food and good conversation everywhere she went. She had an amazing amount of gratitude and vigor for life. She spent many years volunteering her time in the community and will be missed very much by all who knew her.
Anne owned Paladino Fuel Oil Co, Inc. in New York before moving to Del. in 1980. She then worked as a bookkeeper at The Harrington Journal. She helped in all areas related to the business, as well as wrote a cooking column entitled, Anne's Kitchen. She collected many of those recipes and later printed a cookbook of the same name. After working at the newspaper, she was employed at Milford Memorial Hospital as the Lead ER Admissions Clerk/Manager and retired in 1997.
Anne loved and was devoted to St. Bernadette's Catholic Church for 30 years. She was instrumental in seeing her vision come to fruition in establishing the Grotto at the church. She served as president for 3 years as a Columbiette and was Executive Director of the Lake Forest Church Association Food Pantry for over 20 years. The food pantry was one of her greatest accomplishments. She was the driving force for its expansion as the requests for food increased. Applying for grant status, she worked hard to secure a sizable space for over 60 volunteers to work and store food. Many have benefited from her selfless acts of kindness.
She is survived by her daughters and son in law, Sue (Taylor) Mitchell, Elena Paladino; sisters, Bertha D'Orazio, Rose Benevente, Barbara Cali; grandchildren, Kaylegh Zaworski, Cole Mitchell; great-grandchild, Avery James Zaworski; several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2018 at the Saint Bernadette Catholic Church, 109 Dixon Street, Harrington, DE at 1 p.m. A visitation for family and friends will take place at the Melvin Funeral Home on Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment will be at Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either LFCA (Food Pantry), Inc., PO Box 101, Harrington, DE 19952, or St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 109 Dixon Street, Harrington, DE 19952.
Arrangements are by the Thomas E. Melvin & Son Funeral Home Inc, Harrington, DE. Visit us at www.melvinfuneralhome.com to send flowers or sign condolence book.
