BOCA RATON, Fla. - Anne Jacobson Gordon, age 92, of Boca Raton, formerly a long time resident of Dover, died March 5, 2011, in Boca Raton, Fla. Born in Chicago, Ill., June 30, 1918, to the late Celia and Morris Jacobson, she graduated from Manley Junior High and Marshall High School in 1935. Anne married her husband, Lewis, Dec. 25, 1938, and they settled in Dover, where they worked together in the family business, Capital Scrap Iron and Metals, Inc. for more than 38 years. Anne and Lewis were married for over sixty-one years until his death in 2000. A loving mother, a great baker, and a community leader, Anne was instrumental in the founding of Congregation Beth Sholom in Dover where she was active for over 35 years as well as serving as president of the Sisterhood and a Sunday school teacher. She participated in many organizations including the Kent General Hospital Junior Board, the State of Delaware PTA, and the March of Dimes. She was appointed to the Delaware State Human Relations Commission, the Delaware Commission for Women and the Delaware Workman's Compensation Board by former governors of the State of Delaware. Anne wrote many short stories and was published often in Modern Maturity Magazine. Her writing enabled her to fulfill a long time dream of chronicling her family history. In addition to her parents and husband, Anne was predeceased by her siblings, Ida Kramer, Beatrice Blumenfeld and Edward Jacobson. She is survived by her children, Gary Gordon (Joan Schwartz) of Philadelphia, and Bryan Gordon, her daughter-in-law, Jessie Nelson of Palisades, Calif.; her former daughter-in-law, Nancy Gordon of Wilmington; her grandchildren, Howard and Michael Gordon, Jill Wishkov (Marc) and Molly Gordon; and three great grandchildren, Ava, Shane and Noah Wishkov. Graveside services will be 2 p.m., Wednesday March 9, 2011, at the Jewish Community Cemetery, Foulk Rd., Wilmington. Contributions are requested to Congregation Beth Sholom, 340 North Queen St. Dover, DE 19904. Arrangements by Schoenberg Memorial Chapel.
