CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Ann Walls Sutton 78, of rural Chestertown, Md., died on Saturday, September, 28, 2013 at the Chester River Hospital Center, Chestertown, Md. She was the daughter of the late Mary Durham and Edward Rood Walls and was born in Galena, Md. Mrs. Sutton worked for the Kent County Public School system for 26 years as an Instruction Assistant and she was actively involved in all of the daily activities of running her family farm. She was a member of the St. James United Methodist Church, where she served on their administrative board and as a Sunday school teacher. She loved ballroom dancing and was a member and Vice-President of the Chestertown Cotillion Club, having also served as a past President. Mrs. Sutton was currently a member of the Maryland Agriculture Council Board of Directors, a position she has held for the past eight years. She was also a former member and Past President of Soroptimist International of Kent County. Mrs. Sutton enjoyed making ceramic Santas and Christmas trees. Spending time in her garden and her flowers was very important to her and she loved to watch and feed the birds. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sutton was predeceased by a sister, Peggy Clark; and a brother, Raymond Walls. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, William Sutton; a daughter, Susan Nickerson, and her husband Phil of Still Pond, Md.; one son, Billy Sutton, and his wife Patricia of Worton, Md.; grandchildren, William "Trey" Sutton III, Jessica Lee Strong, Tanner LeRoy Nickerson and Baxter Sutton Nickerson; and great grandchildren, Drew Sutton, Lucy Strong, Reese Strong and Rachel Strong. Also surviving are two sisters, Fay Miller of Earleville, Md. and Edwina Walters of Galena, Md.; and one brother, Edward "Bud" Walls, of Tucson, Arizona. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Friday, October 4, 2013 at St. James United Methodist Church where friends and family may call one hour prior to services. Friends and family are also invited to call 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday evening at the Fellows Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Rd., Chestertown, Md. Interment will follow the funeral service in the adjoining church yard cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in her memory to the St. James United Methodist Church, P.O.
