DOVER, Del. - Alton Jones Latchum, Jr. passed away suddenly on January 23, 2022 surrounded by his family.
Al was born in Salisbury, Md. to the late Edna Lucile Latchum Taylor and Alton Jones Latchum Sr. who passed in WW2; and his stepfather, John M. Taylor; along with father-in-law, Michele Gadaleta of Smyrna, Del.
Al is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 37 years, Anna Collins Latchum; his siblings, Kenneth Latchum & Leigh of Raleigh, N.C., Dwight Taylor & Debbie of Salisbury, Md., Linda Hutson & Buck of Bozman, Md., and Gary Taylor & Charlotte of Salisbury, Md.; his brother and sister-in-law, Cosmo Gadaleta and Jodi of Middletown, Del., Margherita and Max Lawing of Vero Beach, Fla.; and mother-in-lawn, Angela Gadaleta of Smyrna, Del.; and many nieces and nephews.
Al was proud and blessed to have all daughters, Julie Latchum Hawkins of N.J., Jennifer Ehrenfield & Jean Pierre of N.J., Gloria Collins Cohen & Michael of Crestview, Fla., Roberta Collins Myers & G.R. of Frederica, Del., Christina Latchum and fiancé Steel Glanden of Felton, Del. Al was also blessed with 24 grandchildren who he was completely devoted to and even being recently surprised having his last grandson named after him.
Al graduated from South Hagerstown High School, Hagerstown, Md. (1959) He attended and graduated from Hagerstown Jr College (1961). At 18, Al started his exciting young life becoming a lifeguard at Ocean City, Md. where he worked for 6 years. He started a career in Sales & Marketing working with a national company, Hanes Hosiery. He then worked as a store manager for an appliance dealership in Seaford, Del. Al started his own used appliance sales & service business in the 1980's and continued to this day.
Al loved collecting antiques and attending auctions which is where he met the love of his life, Anna. Al enjoyed spending all his extra time with his daughters and grandchildren, listening to oldies music and taking great pride in his collection of Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 twin turbo sports cars. He had 3 rare models which kept him very active going to car shows and displaying his prized possessions! Al enjoyed telling jokes, sharing stories and making you smile. He was smart, physically active, and could fix anything! He enjoyed traveling and going on cruises with his family and friends. He was the type of person you can count on for anything and always happy to help.
He was of the Christian faith and knew that one day he would be in a better place with his Father in Heaven and loved ones. He would light up any time he talked about his children and grandchildren and how proud and grateful he was of each and every one of them! Al was an amazing and devoted husband and father and will be truly missed and loved by all.
Funeral Services will be held 1 p.m., Monday, January 31, 2022, at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford Street, Dover, DE 19904. Friends may call one hour prior. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Dover.
