GREENWOOD - Alphonso E. "Babe" Stevens, of Greenwood, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 2010, at his home. He was 95. Babe was born Oct. 28, 1915, in Kenton, to the late Franklin and Lula Stevens. He served his country in the US Army, 477 Engineer Maintenance Company, in the South Pacific. He worked for 33 years at the DuPont plant in Seaford, retiring in 1978. Babe was a Lifetime member of the Greenwood VFW Post 7478 and a member of the London Village Baptist Chapel in Magnolia. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and he always had a dog named "Tim." Besides his parent's he was preceded in death by his wife Virginia; (2) sons Franklin and Layton; (3) brothers James "Dud", Tommy, and Franklin; (4) sister Gladys, Ida, Dorothy, and Fairilee. He is survived by (4) children Donna and Dennis Schurman of Smyrna, Gwen Smith of Smyrna, Glenn and Melinda Stevens of Harrington; and Gladys Passwaters of Seaford; (8) grandchildren, Craig, Scott, Toni, Ryan, Chad, Shane, Lori, and Katrina; and (17) great-grandchildren. Viewing will be held on Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Fleischauer Funeral Home, 16 W. Market St., Greenwood. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec 31, 2010, at 1 p.m. at Fleischauer Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963 or Christiana Care VNA, One Read's Way, Suite 100, New Castle, DE 19720.
