Allen H. Davis

HARTLY - Allen H. Davis passed away on Friday, June 29, 2018 after a short illness.
Mr. Davis was born on Dec. 23, 1934 at Kent General Hospital in Dover, the son of the late Maxwell Davis and Myrtle (Hutchins) Davis.
Raised in Hartly, Allen graduated from John Bassett Moore High School in Smyrna. Allen enlisted in the United States Army, serving his country with honor.
He married Frances Knotts in 1960 and together, they enjoyed 58 years of marriage.
Allen worked with the State of Delaware, Material and Research for 30 years, retiring in 1988. After retiring, he enjoyed woodworking, tinkering on cars and anything that could give him a challenge. Allen loved flowers and working in the yard, maintaining and keeping the grass green. He liked antiquing and enjoyed finishing the things that he found.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara Gayle Davis; his oldest brother, Maxwell Davis, Jr.; and his sister, Joan Beckman.
Allen is survived by wife, Frances Davis; his son, Wade A. Davis and his wife Kim of Wyoming; his grandchildren, Josh Thompson and his wife Tracey, Erin Curtiss and her husband Greg, and Brian Davis and Ally; his great grandchildren, Jenna Curtiss, Devyn Thompson, and Wyatt Davis. He is also survived by his brother, Jason Davis and his wife Carla of Frederica.
A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 South Main Street in Smyrna. Memorial services will begin at 11 a.m.
Burial will be privately held.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be sent to the American Heart Association, 200 Continental Drive, Suite 101, Newark, DE 19713.
