BELLEVILLE, N.J. - Alice Mae Perkowski of Belleville died Wednesday, May 9, 2007, in Columbus Hospital, Newark. She was 89.
Ms. Perkowski was born Aug. 25, 1917, in Chestertown, Md., daughter of the late Charles Sr. and Stella (Townsend) Kirby. She was raised in Cliff City and as a young adult moved to Northern New Jersey with her family.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, John Kirby, Randolph Kirby and James Kirby; and five sisters, Goldey Pinter, LaVinia Kirby, Vivian Cuneo, Louise Cornwell and Phyllis Kirby.
She is survived by three children, Janet Perkowski of Belleville, Nancy Wessel of Chestertown, and Bruce Perkowski of Albuquerque, N.M.; five grandchildren, Darlene Ragas, Tamra Gardner, Evonne Heald, Dana Kane and Michael Perkowski; a brother, Charles Kirby of Chestertown; 10 great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
Friends may call Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St. Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in Bond Chapel, Quaker Neck, near Chestertown. Burial will be in Chester Cemetery.
Memorials may be offered to Bond Chapel, c/o Grace Nelson, 6739 Quaker Neck Road, Chestertown, MD 21620.
