HARBESON - Albert Swaringen, age 88, of Harbeson, passed away Saturday, March 17, 2012, at the Delaware Veterans Home, Milford. Albert was born in Petersburg, Va., but grew up and went to school in Washington, D.C. At the age of 18, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Europe during and to the end of World War II. Among several awards, he earned the bronze star for bravery. After his discharge, he worked for the Capital Transient Co. in Washington, D.C., for many years until he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. After his military career of 22 years, he worked for the U. S. Postal Service 17 years. Upon his retirement, he lived in Owings, Md., and then in 1991 moved to Harbeson. Albert and his wife Maria joined the Southern Baptist Church in 1973. His greatest wish and concern throughout his life was always for his family. To become a good and honest citizen and to be saved and live a Christian life, and find the enjoyment of helping others, a true gift from God. In addition to his loving wife, Maria, Albert is survived by a son, Karlheinz A. Swaringen; daughter, Donna M.I. Wade; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be noon, Thursday, March 22, 2012, at the Long Neck chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Rd, Millsboro, where friends may call after 11:30 a.m. Burial will be at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro.
