SALISBURY, Md. - Albert John Green, of Salisbury, formerly of Easton, known fondly as "Greenie," passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2008, in Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury. He was 89.
He was born May 12, 1918, in Laurel, Del., son of the late James Hillard and Bertha Gertrude (Waller) Green.
Mr. Green was preceded in death by his wife, Osiclea Girley Green, on April 10, 1985.
He attended Laurel public schools.
Mr. Green served his country by enlisting in the U.S. Army and was a World War II veteran.
He worked for the Department of Transportation, but the love of his life was running his produce stand along U.S. 13 in Laurel.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Green; a son, Richard D. Green; and three brothers, Arthur, David and Walter Green.
He is survived by four children, Wayne D. Green and his friend Martie of Blades, Thelma J. Stanley and her husband Joseph M. of Laurel, Arlene V. Green of Laurel, and Carlissa Green and her friend Forest of Newark; one sister, Charlotte Fooks of Delmar; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Mary Downing and her husband Charles of Boston, and Stacia Girley of Concord; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Framptom Funeral Home, Federalsburg, where friends may call one hour prior.
The Rev. Floyd Bivens will officiate.
Interment will follow at St. Matthew's First Baptist Church Cemetery, Laurel.
