FELTON - Albert J. Stokes of Felton died Wednesday, July 4, 2007, in Christiana Care-Christiana Hospital. He was 75.
Mr. Stokes was born in Milford, son of the late William G. "Pete" and Melissa Stokes.
He was a 1950 graduate of Milford High School.
Mr. Stokes was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
He was a civil service worker with Dover Air Force Base for 35 years, retiring in 1989.
Mr. Stokes was a senior master sergeant for the Air Force Reserves with 20 years of service.
He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Milford for 45 years, a past member of the administrative board and an active member of the Methodist Men, where he was the coordinator of monthly breakfast meetings and food fund-raising dinners.
Mr. Stokes was a 35-year charter member of the Cedarfield Ruritan Club of Millwood, where he was past president, zone governor, post officer and assistant cook for many years, and a 35-year member of the Diamond State Twirlers Square Dance Club, with which he enjoyed traveling to local square dance clubs and national conventions.
He also presented his homemade wooden toys as "Wood "N Stuff" for the last 25 years at various Delaware and Maryland craft shows.
Mr. Stokes enjoyed going to Atlantic City, N.J. with his good friends, Franklin Currie and Carlos Beene. He was an avid fan of his grandchildren"s sports, including the softball league and Polytech lacrosse and soccer. He enjoyed NASCAR, hunting, bowling and gardening.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Leonard Stokes and William Stokes.
He is survived by his wife, Glendora Postles Stokes, with whom he celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary May 26, 2007; two children, Robert Stokes and his wife, Denise, of Milford and Sandra Stokes Gulledge of Frederica; three grandchildren, Courtney Stokes, Thomas Gulledge and Christopher Gulledge; two step-grandchildren, Karen Silberiesen and Andy Silberiesen; two sisters, Elsie Jenkins and Frances Steel and her husband, Rufus, both of Clayton; and a sister-in-law, Anna Mae Stokes of Milford.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Sunday in Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 N.W. Front St., Milford.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday in Calvary U.M. Church, 301 S.E. Front St., Milford.
Burial will be in Milford Community Cemetery.
