Speak Up: We’re forced to work longer, so is 70 the new 65?

Wealth of Geeks writer Mark Garro’s recent Opinion tackled the issue of increasing retirement ages and how the mounting costs of living, dwindling savings and uncertain Social Security benefits are making many rethink their retirement outlooks.

  • I think it’s time to give the politicians some perspective. They steal from the Social Security pool to fund whatever pet projects they have or to grease whatever wheel will keep them on the tracks. They have raised the age so that very few people will get to collect it for more than a few years. All the while they have a full pension paid to them after one term. We (most Americans) pay into Social Security all our lives, hoping someday to get a small percentage of this back, but instead it is used to pay for those who can’t or don’t want to work. Where is the money coming from for all the illegal immigrants? From the American taxpayers, that’s where! We can’t even take care of our own veterans, but we will use this money to help our politicians make it look like they are some kind of saviors. I’m pretty sure the money will soon be used to attempt to buy votes. All politicians need to get a 401(k) like everyone else. There, it’s been said! — John B.
