Migrants from South America undergo extreme hardships to come to the U.S. and while staying in the U.S. Most of them are denied asylum and sent back home. To prevent these hardships, the U.S. government should allow people to apply for asylum in the U.S. from their home countries by mail, through online court hearings or at U.S. embassies.
Then, people who are granted asylum could be given grants to cover the cost of safe travel to the U.S. I think these changes would likely resolve the current crisis of not having enough housing and resources for migrants seeking asylum and would likely save money for the U.S. government.
