Smyrna is top seed in Div. I; Delmar is No. 2 in Div. II field hockey

Defending state champion Smyrna will go into the DIAA field hockey Division I state tournament as the top seed.

Seven-time Delmar is the No. 2 seed in Division II as seven Henlopen Conference teams made the fields for the two tourneys, which were determined on Monday evening.

The Division II tournament begins on Wednesday with four games beginning at 2 p.m. In matchups involving Henlopen teams, No. 9 Lake Forest play at No. 8 Tower Hill while No. 7 Sussex Academy hosts No. 10 Concord.

In Saturday’s second round, No. 2 Delmar hosts the winner of the Sussex Academy-Concord game at 11 a.m. Newark Charter is the No. 1 seed.

The Division I tourney starts on Thursday with four contests at 2 p.m. Smyrna will host No. 8 St. Georges, No. 3 Milford hosts No. 6 Polytech and No. 2 Cape Henlopen hosts No. 7 Odessa.

The state finals are slated for Nov. 11 at the University of Delaware’s Rullo Stadium.
