ODESSA — The early returns are good for the Corner Grounds Cafe, said its owner Kevin Taisey.
He credits a steady stream of patrons since its Jan. 18 opening.
A visit Friday was indicative of that, with 20 or more customers swilling coffee and tea, chomping on bagels and baked goods, and having conversations.
Mr. Taisey, a Townsend resident who also owns ABC Comfort Solutions, said his goal is to residents together.
“My other company is big in the community, so I wanted to bring a place where people could sit, relax and come together as a community and not just go in and out.”
So, “we hoped the community would embrace us, and they have,” he said, adding that he had wanted to open a coffee shop since his youth.
Corner Grounds’ offerings are from various establishments, but all are high-quality, Mr. Taisey said. Bagels arrive from New York City every other day, and local bakers deliver products, as well.
Early customer reviews on the cafe’s Facebook page are glowing.
“Great little place in the corner. Can’t wait to go back,” noted one.
Another stated, “Very friendly staff, cute store, nice tasting coffee.”
The shop’s bagels impressed one visitor: “Highly recommend the blueberry bagels! They’re the best I’ve ever had.”
Developed on the site of a former gas station, the 1,500-square-foot Corner Grounds Cafe — at 102 N. Fifth St. — has 11 part-time employees.
Its hours are 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the weekends.
