Mannoia: Leaders need to tamp down Sussex development

Posted

Upon reading David Breen’s Opinion, I have to ask: How did this data escape the governing leaders that are behind this rampant and ill-advised development rampage (“Sussex growth: ripple effects, unintended consequences")?

It’s no secret to those who already reside here that, as the song goes, “They paved paradise and put up a parking lot.”

I have lived in several different states in my lifetime and have never seen such unchecked, runaway development under the banner of “Build it, and they will come” or “They have money; let’s take it.”

The communities that are impacted are places that people moved to because they were small, quiet and safe communities. If the people who moved to Milton and the other towns under the siege of development wanted to live in the dense and busy towns on the Sussex shore, they would have moved there.

They chose those towns now under the siege of development because of their quiet and relaxed way of life.

Now, they’re going to get an infusion of overdevelopment, higher taxes, higher crime and an overall decrease in their quality of life, at a higher cost.

It’s time the so-called representatives in the state General Assembly represent the people who elected them and not the robber baron builders who are turning Sussex into the residents’ worst nightmare.
